Often we want to be able to see into the future. We say, “How will next year be for me? Where will I be five or ten years from now?” There are no answers to these questions. Mostly we have just enough light to see the next step: what we have to do in the coming hour or the following day. The art of living is to enjoy what we can see and not complain about what remains in the dark. When we are able to take the next step with the trust that we will have enough light for the step that follows, we can walk through life with joy and be surprised at how far we go. Let’s rejoice in the little light we carry and not ask for the great beam that would take all shadows away.

My best friend, Sarah, and her fiance, Joe, just had their engagement pictures taken and they are wonderful! I couldn’t help but reflect over their incredible relationship as I looked through the photos. Currently, Sarah and Joe are in South Korea (if you didn’t notice, Joe is Asian…hehe) as Joe serves in the military, as all South Korean men do. Sarah decided to join him in South Korea to teach English and learn about the Korean culture. Although I miss them both incredibly, it is easy to see what an wonderful experience this is for both of them. Sarah has become very close to Joe’s family who live in the city she is teaching in, Joe has been able to experience a culture he has been away from for some time, and together they have grown stronger as a couple. It is unbelievable how gracious they are with one another, always supporting the other person with selflessness. They are true examples of God’s people who simply love each other in such a healthy way. Sarah will probably make fun of me, but I cried when I looked through their photos, as they are such beautiful people, and their love is so strong and inspiring. They are true friends to Kyle and me, and we can’t wait for them to return to the States. I love you guys! May 2012 bring you both so many wonderful memories and blessings!
